Mark A. Turnquest, MBA & Associate Companies in 2006 had introduced one of its strategic business unit: Small Business Resource Centre (SBRC).

The mission of SBRC is to provide a variety of professional services that would “improve the success (efficiency / effectiveness) rate of new and existing businesses” via The Business Survival Program (BSP). BSP main goal is to reduce operating costs / expenses of small / medium sized businesses. SBRC focuses on the following areas.

SBRC focuses on five areas:  1. INFORMATION & RESEARCH; 2. BUSINESS PLANNING; 3. BUSINESS TRAINING; 4. BUSINESS CONSULTING; 5. BUSINESS SUPPORT & 6. FINANCIAL FUNDING.

 1. INFORMATION & RESEARCH

SBRC provides the new Entrepreneur with information on how to start a new venture. SBRC has a library which consists of various books, videos and CD/DVDs on numerous business management topics (Entrepreneurship, Marketing, Leadership, Sales, Customer Service, Accounting, Finance, Human Resource Management, Operations, Information Technology). SBRC has produced a booklet to be used as a guide when starting a new venture: “Steps in Starting a Small / Medium Sized Business in The Bahamas

SBRC assists new and existing businesses with market research initiatives (products, services, customers, competition and industry) and provides relevant data on the effectiveness of various advertising media, based on the type of industry being exploited.

2. BUSINESS PLANNING

SBRC develops feasibility studies to determine if new ventures could become viable businesses.  If the new venture passes the “profitability test” then a business plan will be prepared that articulates the vision of the Entrepreneur. The Entrepreneur will participate significantly in the formulation of all plans.

SBRC works closely with executives of existing businesses in order to formulate departmental (operational) plans. Action plans are then designed to be executed in an effective and efficient manner.

3. BUSINESS TRAINING

SBRC hosts regular business seminars and workshops via Entrepreneurship Empowerment Workshop™ in Entrepreneurship, Business Management, Marketing, Sales, Customer Service, Accounting, Financial Planning, Human Resource Management and Computer Operations. All of these training programs are registered with the Ministry of Education and  The National Accreditation and Equivalency Council of The Bahamas (NAECOB). The organization has introduced an entrepreneurship course: 8 M's of Entrepreneurial Success®.

 4. BUSINESS CONSULTING

SBRC has a cadre of professionals (Business Developers, Marketing Experts, Accountants, Attorneys, Bankers, etc.) who understand the market conditions (problems, opportunities) that small / medium sized businesses experience in The Bahamas. Their main objectives are to increase organizational revenues, productivity and growth potential; decrease costs / expenses, hence, creating the perfect business model.

5. BUSINESS SUPPORT

SBRC provides the new Entrepreneur with management, marketing, sales, operations, receptionist and secretarial services at discounted prices. The organization has a Human Resource Management Support System available to develop all businesses. Business executives can also hold board meetings, meet clients and display their product/service offerings at the facility. In addition, Entrepreneurs can enroll in the Business Survival Program™, a network management and marketing support program to improve organizational effectiveness and efficiency.

6. FINANCIAL FUNDING

SBRC produces business plans to obtain various financing (start-up, reorganizing or growth ) at TheBahamas Entrepreneurial Venture Fund, Bahamas Development Bank and other financial institutions in order to turn dreams into reality!
